DEI Is Never Inclusive

The LCPS School Board established its Equity Committee in 2019. One of the committee first actions in 2020 was to add Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish holidays to the LCPS student calendar. This decision angered many Chinese American parents in Loudoun County because Lunar New Year was excluded. Further review revealed that the DEI committee did not include Indian, Chinese, or other Asian American representatives.
I have long opposed DEI policies because of their discriminatory impact on Asian Americans in education. Through my work with AACE (Asian American Coalition for Education) and SFFA (Students for Fair Admissions), I helped secure the Supreme Court’s decision in our lawsuit against Harvard University, which struck down its discriminatory admissions policies targeting Asian American students. Affirmative action in education, therefore, is gone for good.
I believe the Democratic progressive DEI agenda is comparable to China’s Cultural Revolution. Both divided the country and communities, and both lowered educational standards in the name of so-called “equitable outcomes.” The difference is that while the Chinese Communist Party abandoned these destructive policies decades ago to focus on economic growth and scientific advancement, the progressive wing of the Democratic Party refuses to learn from history and continues to embrace DEI.
I urge the LCPS School Board to abolish its DEI policies and programs, not only to prevent the loss of $46 million in federal funding but also to return education to its true purpose—teaching children knowledge, not ideologies that even the CCP has long abandoned.
