Since the LCPS School Board adopted the “Rights of Transgender and Gender-Expansive Students” policy by a 7–2 vote in August 2021. Loudoun became a focal point of the progressive movement in the nation. In response, angry parents swiftly voted in a Republican governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general in the 2021 statewide election.
One of the two dissenting votes was cast by Mr. Jeff Morse. He pointed out that LCPS Policy 1040, "Equal Opportunity for Equitable, Safe, and Inclusive Environment" already provides students with equal access to a safe and inclusive learning environment. I completely agree with Mr. Morse on this.
The current school board members—most of whom were endorsed by progressives —continue to face criticism from concerned parents and the broader Loudoun community. Yet they still refuse to acknowledge that Policy 8040 has been a disservice to the Loudoun County Public Schools, creating a major distraction from the core mission of education and dividing the community.
